Davey and Company's oakum is the best navy quality oakum available and can be purchased in a 4kg (8.8lb) bale OR 12kg which is 3 - 4kg (8.8lb) bales. Oakum, hemp fiber enriched in Stockholm tar, is the authentic caulking material that swells and expands to pack the joints and gaps of wooden boats. Choose oakum when you need to fill large gaps in planking, especially below the waterline. Approximate yield: 4kg is 390 feet; 12kg is 1,170 feet.
